ccreditation

Accreditation Canada (previously the Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation - CCHSA) was incorporated in 1958 to set standards for Canadian health care organizations and assess their compliance against these standards. Accreditation Canada is a non-profit organization and a registered charity. It is governed by a board of directors made up of representatives of national health care organizations, government and consumers.

Accreditation Canada's program provides one of the few and most effective measures by which health care organizations can accurately assess their level of performance. Participation is voluntary, and those organizations that take part find great value in the internal self-assessment and the consultative peer review process that are fundamental to the accreditation program.

OANHSS has continually supported the work of Accreditation Canada and is proud to recognize the accomplishments of members that achieve an accredited status. Newly accredited members receive our Quality of Care plaque at our Annual Convention. The plaque has been designed to be displayed in a prominent place to signify that it is a place where quality of life and quality of service are of the highest regard. Accredited members continue to receive an annual insert for each year that they maintain their status.

As of December 2008, the following 106 member organizations were accredited through Accreditation Canada:
