CONCURRENT WORKSHOP 7
WEDNESDAY, MAY 14 - 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM
Health Care Privacy in a Wired World
(Governance and Leadership)
Technological advances in the health care field have led to lightning-fast access to electronic records, much needed connections to remote areas and high-tech medical equipment. Despite the many benefits, technology’s sticking point is the potential for privacy breaches.
This timely session will provide the latest information on health privacy and a refresher on the Personal Health Information Protection Act and Quality Care Information Protection Act. Find out the implications of a changing e-landscape. Are secure frameworks enough to protect private information? What else is being done? You will also have an opportunity to share your experiences with implementing privacy requirements and identify successful best practices.
Objectives:
Review Ontario’s health privacy law and the obligations for health care providers.
Identify the link between privacy and e-health frameworks.
Identify solutions to privacy challenges and learn about new and old tools specifically designed for the long term care and community sectors.
