Best Practices in Seniors’ Supportive Housing Design
(Management and Operations)
The design of a home is critical to the well-being of its residents – and this is no less true in seniors’ supportive housing. In fact, studies show that older people require adequate, accessible and personalized space to facilitate routine and retain a sense of self-determination. What are the best layouts and design features to provide a welcoming and functional space?
Find out in this interesting review of best practices in supportive housing design. Dr. Katherine Boydell will outline research that demonstrates that seniors have important values and preferences regarding the physical setting, the people within the setting and the larger community in which the housing is situated. She will explain the importance of ensuring the participation of older people in reviewing and analyzing design ideas and share some of the most promising and progressive practices in supportive housing design.
Objectives:
Review the results from a survey of progressive existing seniors’ supportive housing programs.
Identify essential design features for older adults living in supportive housing.
Discuss promising practices in design in seniors’ supportive housing settings.
