Minimal Operating Funding Increase
for Facilities
September 18, 2001
The government quietly announced a $60 million dollar increase to LTC facilities in a letter to provider associations.
Although the investment by government will be staged over a two year period, this represents a one-time per diem increase of $2.60 based on a CMI of 100. The breakdown of the increase will be as follows:
Nursing and personal care:
$1.33
Raw food:
.11
Programming:
.13
Accommodation:
1.03
The government is investing $30 million effective October 1, 2001, which represents a six month time period. On an annualized basis the investment to long-term care equals $60 million, as the province's fiscal year commences April 1st. In order to maintain this per diem increase during the 2002-2003 fiscal year, an additional investment of $30 million was acknowledged by the government in their funding announcement. Accordingly, there will not be a further per diem increase on April 1st as a result of this announcement.
The money will flow by October 22, 2001. Letters are being prepared to be sent to each individual facility and will be distributed under John King’s signature over the next few days.
