Medical Equipment Funding - Small But
Welcome Share for Long Term Care
September 18, 2001
Speaking from Castleview Wychwood Towers in Toronto
yesterday, Minister Clement announced that $190.2 million dollars will be
provided to hospitals, cancer centers, ambulances and long term care facilities.
We have learned that approximately $25 million of the total will be allocated
for long term care facilities. These are federal transfer dollars, with the
stipulation that these funds cannot be used for new equipment but must be used
to purchase replacement equipment
only.
The funding is based on $437.95 per bed and all facilities in operation on April 1, 2001 are eligible. Regional offices have been given examples of equipment that may be included, such as: lifts, beds, therapeutic tubs, commodes, specialized mattresses, suction equipment, geriatric chairs, therapy equipment, wandering control systems, security systems, nurse call systems, major kitchen equipment and resident furnishings. The minimum cost of purchases must be $250. Invoices need to be in to the Ministry by January 15, 2002.
OANHSS members are reminded to take advantage of our Bulk Purchase Programs with Arjo and Futuremed for bath and shower systems and hoists, beds, mattresses and other equipment. Contact Debbie Humphreys for more information.
