OPENING KEYNOTE: Inspirations from the Vinyl Cafe Monday June 7, 2010 - 7:00 PM – 8:15
PM
Canadians coast to coast
have made tuning in to CBC Radio’s The Vinyl Cafe a Sunday morning
ritual. Created and hosted by Stuart McLean, the show’s enormous
popularity proves the timeless power of story-telling -- its ability to
amuse and inspire, to move and to motivate.
McLean, who found
his voice in articulating the occasionally outrageous antics of
fictional characters Dave and Morley, their two children and their
friends and neighbours, continues to captivate audiences at home and
across the country when he takes the show on the road. At the heart of
his success is his ability to capture those everyday moments and connect
them to a universal truth that resonates with listeners young and
old.
His
engaging, home-brewed and internationally appreciated humour is the
perfect kick-start for this year’s Get Inspired-themed
event: Laughter is not only good for what ails you, but a powerful spark
that can ignite the learning process.
Stuart
McLean, creator and host of The Vinyl Cafe, is the
author of a series of award-winning books based on the show. A former
contributor to CBC Radio’s Sunday Morning and
Morningside programs, McLean is also professor emeritus and
a former School of Journalism broadcast director at Ryerson
University.
